Help & Guides
Remove, clean & repair RUNA
RUNA is designed to be reused. Learn how to remove it carefully, check the inside surface and, if needed, prepare it for its next use with the Repair Kit.
Keep your RUNA ready for its next use
Preparing RUNA for reuse involves four steps: remove it, clean it, check the inner lining and, if needed, smooth or replace it.
Before you start
What you need
Get everything ready before removing RUNA. That way, you can clean and inspect the shoe straight away.
- A pair of blunt-nosed pliers
- Water for cleaning
- Isopropyl alcohol (pure alcohol without additives)
- A clean, lint-free cloth
- For uneven areas: cleaning brush for a cordless drill
- If inner material is missing: RUNA Repair Kit
Important before reapplying
The black inner lining should be smooth and as complete as possible. Remove old adhesive residue thoroughly before gluing RUNA on again.

Remove RUNA carefully
Work patiently and loosen the shoe one tab at a time. This helps reduce the risk of unnecessarily damaging the tabs or inner lining.
- Use blunt-nosed pliers.
- Start at a corner of one tab.
- Carefully peel the tab away from the hoof.
- Continue loosening the shoe one tab at a time.
- Work slowly on tabs that are firmly attached; do not jerk or pull suddenly.
Clean and dry RUNA
After removal, clean the shoe thoroughly so you can inspect it and prepare it for reuse.
- Rinse the removed RUNA with water.
- Let the shoe dry completely.
- Degrease the inside surface with isopropyl alcohol (pure alcohol without additives) and a clean cloth.
- Wait until the alcohol has completely evaporated.
Check the inner lining
The black inner lining determines whether RUNA can be reused as it is or needs some repair first.
The black lining is present across the surface and feels smooth and even. RUNA can usually be reused without further repair.
Smooth any uneven areas. If material is missing, replace the inner lining with a RUNA Repair Kit.
Smooth or replace the inside surface
Smoothing uneven areas
Work only on the areas where the inside surface is uneven.
- Smooth uneven areas with the cleaning brush attached to a cordless drill.
- Alternatively, use a small belt sander.
- Then clean the worked area thoroughly and degrease it with isopropyl alcohol.
Replacing the inner pads with the Repair Kit
- Remove all old adhesive residue.
- Prepare the new inner pads so they fit.
- Apply a thin layer of RUNA special adhesive.
- Glue the inner pads on one tab at a time.
- Press each glued area evenly with both thumbs for 10 seconds (at least 5 seconds).
- Attach one side first, then the opposite side.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions about removal and repair
Can I reuse RUNA more than once?
Yes. RUNA is designed to be reused. Remove it carefully, clean it and inspect it before using it again.
How can I remove RUNA without damaging it?
Use blunt-nosed pliers, start at a corner and carefully peel the shoe away one tab at a time. Sharp pliers can damage the tabs.
How can I tell if the inner lining is still in good condition?
The black lining should be as complete, smooth and even as possible. If it is uneven or material is missing, it needs to be repaired or replaced.
Can I apply new adhesive over old adhesive residue?
No. Remove old adhesive residue thoroughly before gluing RUNA on again, as superglue does not bond reliably to old residue.
How many shoes does one Repair Kit cover?
One Repair Kit is enough for one RUNA single shoe. You need two kits for a pair.
